Empi 9442 HEI Ignition Kit adds a high voltage electronic ignition to your VW Type 1 engine used in 1960-79 Beetle, Karmann Ghia, and 1960-71 Bus with upright Type 1 style engine. Does not fit in Type 3 or Type 4 style engines due to distributor body size.
Includes Billet distributor with solid state ignition module, 40,000 volt OE style coil that fits in your stock coil bracket, HEI 8.5mm spark plug wires, distributor clamp with degree timing marks, wire separators, and advance spring and bushing kit.
Includes three springs pairs and four bushings to adjust centrifugal advance curve and advance stop to find what's best for your application. Medium (silver) springs and medium (bronze) bushing are pre-installed.
Centrifugal Advance Springs:
Red = Light
Silver = Medium
Black = Heavy
Advance Stop Bushings:
Silver = 14 degree limit
Bronze = 12 degree limit
Black = 10 degree limit
Gold = 8 degree limit
Lighter spring allows quicker timing advance and is recommended for stock engine setups. Medium spring is recommended for most dual carb and performance applications. Use the bushing stops to adjust full timing advance.
